Aqua® Products Trials in Shrimp Farming - Part 2

Updated: Mar 5, 2023

Information from a study concluded Red Barn Group Research & Development Teams on shrimp diseases and culture technology.

Growing State Experiment (30 days)

Location: Surat Thani, Thailand.

Aqua® Line Cationic Compensators, Aquaculture Premium Line.

The Results

The Survival Rate with added 5ml Aqua® CaLCIUM, 5ml Aqua® MgNESIUM, 5ml Aqua® kPOTASSIUM, and 15ml Aqua® BOOSTER per KG of feed (TREATMENT 3) was 43% higher compared to the CONTROL GROUP, where shrimps were only fed standard pellets.

The Total Biomass in TREATMENT 3 was also 20.7% higher compared with the CONTROL GROUP. All the cages were fed the same amount of food per day, with a total of 115.5 grams for the whole trial, if feeding was done ad libitum this difference would be higher.

At the start of the trial, the animals in the CONTROL GROUP were more homogenous than the ones in the TREATMENT GROUPS, at the end of the trial, however, the Standard Deviation in the TREATMENT GROUPS was 35% less.

The Conversion Rate in TREATMENT 3 was 11% better compared with the CONTROL GROUP.

We found little difference between CONTROL GROUP and TREATMENTS 1 and 2, which makes us conclude that working with the full range of Aqua Products has some positive synergy that maximizes the final result.

PRODUCTS:

Aqua® CaLCIUM (35% Ca) + Vitamin C + Amino acids

Aqua® MgNESIUM (35% Mg) + Vitamin C + Amino acids

Aqua® kPOTASSIUM (35% K) + Vitamin C + Amino acids

Aqua® BOOSTER: Cocktail of Different Organic acids

Minerals, such as vitamins, do not provide energy to the body but have important regulatory functions in addition to their plastic function as they are part of the structure of many tissues.

Nutrient minerals are essential elements for the body as structural components and regulators of body processes that cannot be synthesized and must be part of a daily diet.

The Aqua® line of cationic correctors, focusing on production, enable catatonically compensating the shrimp and its medium.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • 6 net cages (1m x 1m x 1m) floating in a reservoir with untreated seawater (D Pond).

  • Stock 15 L. Vannamei (0.5 g) per cage

  • Feeding ad libitum, 3 times daily (08.00, 12.00, 17.00 h)

  • (1st & 2nd week: 1g/time/cage, 3rd week; 1.5g, 4th week; 2g)

CONTROL

No Aqua® Products used.

Cage 1: fed with standard commercial pellets

TREATMENT 1

Cage 2: fed with standard commercial pellets PLUS: 5ml Aqua® CaLCIUM, 5ml Aqua® MgNESIUM, and 5ml Aqua® kPOTASSIUM per KG of feed.

TREATMENT 2

Cages 3-4: fed with standard commercial pellets PLUS: 15ml Aqua® BOOSTER per KG of feed.

TREATMENT 3

Cages 5-6: fed with standard commercial pellets, PLUS: 5ml Aqua® CaLCIUM, 5ml Aqua® MgNESIUM, 5ml Aqua® kPOTASSIUM, and 15ml Aqua® BOOSTER per KG of feed.

Research

  • Determine EHP (Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei) and LSNV (Laem-Singh Virus) in the shrimp at the end of the experiment

  • Observe the occurrence of White-Feces Disease

  • Determine BW (Bodyweight), SR (Survival rate), SD (Standard Deviation), and FCR (Feed Conversion rate) after a month of trial.
